Oh my god oh my god please watch - early Huell Howser with a bear, a pig and Minnie Pearl!

elcomfortador:

1. Creepy organ music. 2. Early motion graphics. 3. Minnie Pearl, whom I forget is a real person. 4. The horrifically dystopic, Blade Runner-esque commercials for Commerce Union Bank. 5. The stilted, David Lynch quality to the conversation at Porky the Pet House Pig’s birthday party. 6. How noo one seems to have any objection to the fact that Porky eats pork. 7. The fact that the bear’s handler is basically a bear.

More weird glimpses into Huell Howser’s past here.

Looks like a pretty chill dude.

house-of-thought:

The Makapanset Pebble may represent the earliest known expression of aesthetics by ancestors of humans. Left in a cave nearly 3 million years ago it was miles away from any possible source. The shape is definitely natural so the theory is a proto-human found it in a riverbed, recognized the shape of a face, and decided to keep it for that fact.

Light at 1-Trillion Frames/Second

That’s right, you are seeing light in slow motion! At this speed you can study the way light interacts and reflects off of surfaces and, as you can see, when it travels past the tomato onto the wall it seems like a ripple in a pond. This technology will even allow you to see around corners, like into a room or even inside the human body.

The gifs make it seem a little bit faster than the actual video so watch the TED talk video with Ramesh Raskar explaining what he calls “Femto-Photography”.
